Get to Know Dr. Kevin Murphy

Dr. Murphy brought 35+ years of dental experience and plenty of specialty expertise to our dental office, and we’ve loved having him on our team. He deeply enjoyed developing long-standing relationships with his patients. Dr. Murphy has retired from practice but, we're all very excited for him and can't wait to witness the next part of his journey. To learn a little more about his background, read on below.

Why Did You Want to
Become a Dentist?

Dr. Murphy’s undergraduate degree is in biomedical engineering, and when it came time to enroll in graduate school, dentistry immediately caught his attention. He was attracted to the combination of problem-solving, science, and interpersonal relationships that the field entailed, and all these decades later, he couldn’t be happier with his career choice!

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Murphy attended the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, and he remained at the school to earn his Clinical Specialty Certificate in Prosthodontics in 1984. He continued to complete a Clinical Specialty Program in Periodontology in 1986 and obtained a Master of Science Degree in Oral Histology. He also took part in the Clinical Residency Program in Dental Anesthesiology. He has published numerous articles and textbook chapters on periodontal regeneration and implant dentistry. Dr. Murphy has lectured both nationally and internationally on corticotomy facilitated orthodontia, periodontal regeneration, the placement and restoration of dental implants and periodontal prosthesis. He taught at the Pankey Institute and is also a member of multiple professional organizations:

  • American Academy of Periodontology, Diplomate
  • American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, Fellow
  • American Academy of Restorative Dentistry
  • International College of Dentists

What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Murphy and his wife Dr. Lynne Zheutlin, have three children, and he likes to dedicate some of his free time to staying active, whether this involves biking or completing in duathlons. He also is the Dental Director at the Esperanza Center which provides free medical and dental services to uninsured immigrants in the metropolitan Baltimore region who do not qualify for government-sponsored health insurance.
